THREE BARGES ASHORE
MTSHAP OFF WAIKATO HEADS WEATHER INTERRUPTS TOWING. [ 11V TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEKOHE. Wednesday. Three largo barges and a dinghy which came ashore on Mauro beach, about three miles north of Waikato Heads, caused some speculation. Inquiry shows that they were being towed from Mercer to Onehunga by Mr. W. 11. Anderson, contractor, who was using a launch as a towboat. When about five miles outside the Waikato Heads on Saturday difficulty was experienced and the barges were anchored, tho launch proceeding to the Manukau. Tho barges went ashore. The launch put to sea again on Sunday, and with the aid of the easterly weather, got one barge off. It is considered that the present boisterous weather will necessitate a cessation of tho salvage operations.
