BUSES OUSTING TRAMS.
RAILWAY COMPANY'S LOSSES.
Competition from motor-buses between Burton-on-Trent anci South Derbyshire so seriously affects tramway traffic that the tramway owners, the Midland Railway Company, contemplate the possibility of taking up the line and running trackless trams or motor-buses.
The manager stated in January that keen competition was never anticipated and was unfair in view of the capital ex' penditure involved in laying the lines and widening the roads. There are five competing services, and travelling facilities are stated to be out of all proportion to public needs. The trams, which have run regularly for 20 years, are now going almost empty. °
