POLLUTION OF DRAINS.
FARM STOCK AFFECTED. [by telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT. I MORRINSVILLE. Thursday. The Hungahtinga Drainage Board decided to write to three ratepayers in Wardville, who, it was reported, had turned the sweepings from their stockyards into an outlet drain. It was alleged that a farmer had lost the service of 30 cows out of 60 as a result of drinking polluted water from a drain.
Mr. Thompson said every farmer should have a water supply apart from the board's drains. He knew of a piggery so close to one of the board's drains that soakage would l>e sure to reach the drain. He had also s<»en dead calves that had been thrown int*i a stream.
