AMUNDSEN'S PLANS.

A PRELIMINARY FLIGHT.

START TO BE MADE IN APRIL. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) NE"W YORK, Feb. 16. A message from Portland, Oregon, states that Captain Roald Amundsen, before attempting to fly over the North Pole from Svalbard (formerly Spitzbergen) to Alaska in a dirigible this year intends to make a preliminary flight from Svalbard to Paris, London and Leningrad. In making this announcement Captain Amundsen, although expressing good wishes for the Wilkins expedition, for which preparations are now being made, said that the party would starve if it depended upon the Arctic waste for its food supply. Captain Amundsen will start on his flight in April if the dirigible is ready by that time.
