Hopper, now of -Auckland, formerly matron of the Daiinevirke Hospital, at a meeting of the.. Danueyirko Hospital Board to-day. At the time when Miss Hopper's services were dispensed with bv the Waipa wa Hospital Board considerable indignation was aroused, and when site was granted a pension of £1 a week it was iclt by a large section of the community that it was an inadequate recognition of services extending over about 16 years. In her application Miss Hopper pointed out that owing to failing health she was' now entirely dependent upon her pension. which was not enough, and she. asked for an increase. The chairman, Mr. D. Drumniond, said that the old Waipawa Hospital Board, the members of which were conversant with the position, having settled the amount of pension, he did not think it incumbent upon the. Daiinevirke Board, a now institution, to reopen the matter. The application .met with no support from members, and it was decided to iinlonn. Miss Hopper that the board was unable to reopen the matter or to grant her an increase in pension.
