NEW ZEALAND GOLFERS

TRIP& ABROAD URGED. AUSTRALIA AND ENGLAND. LOCAL PROFESSIONAL'S VIEWS. Returning from a holiday in Australia, Mr. E. J. Moss, professional golf champion of New Zealand, expressed tho opinion that tho Dominion should at least send two players to compete in the British open golf championship in June. He spent "a considerable amount of time in golfing circles in the Commonwealth and is impressed with the efforts being rirade there to have adequate Australian representation at the British contest. Australia, ho said, was sending four players: H. R. Sinclair, the amateur champion of the Commonwealth, and C. Clarke, F. Popplewell "and T. Howard. Sinclair and Howard will be-sent by funds v raised publicly, and Clarke and Popplewell by their respective clubs, Kensington and Rose Bay. ' The Australian open championship will also be held at Adelaide in June and here again Mr. Moss considers New Zealand should have soma representation. If anything is to be done, however, the decision will have to be made early. Speaking of his observations in Australia, Mr. Moss said he was much impressed with the play of Sinclair. The latter was tho finest player he had seen for years. Nevertheless, lie believed that T. Hi Horton, New Zealand's amateur champion; would hold his own in Australia against any player except Sinclair. He thought Sinclair was at least a. stroke in a round better than Horton. During his stay in Australia, Mr. Moss had a few games with leading players. In a round at the Moor Park links, Sydney, D. G. Soutar completed in 65, H. R. Sinclair in 63 and Moss in 64, the bogey being 73. The best rounds played by Moss during his holiday were:—Concord links, 72 (bogey 80); Cronulla links, 68 (bogey 80); Kensington links, 73 (bogey 79). Mr. Moss says there is just a chance that Sinclair may visit Auckland on his way to England. In that event arrangements have been made for a match to be played at Middlemoro between the two men.
