Line, sailed from New York on December 31. aocording to advice received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company. She is duo at Auckland ori February 4. MOTOR SHIPBUILDING. It is well known that tho past three years havo / represented a period of tho utmost depression in shipbuilding. It is, therefore, all the more remarkable to note, as recorded in November's iasuo of The Motor Ship, that thero has boon a very rapid increase in tho tonnage of motorships constructed. In 1923 the motorships built throughout the world totalled 355,925 tons dead-weight, in 1924 the figure was 049,265 tons dead-weight, while for the first eleven months of 1925 it amounted to 801,355 tons. At tho end of 1923 tho gross tonnage of motor-ships building throughout the world was 400,808. At tho present time the corresponding figure is about 1.100,000 lons gross. It is to be remarked that the output of motor-ships from British yards last year was greater than from_.any other country, although the United Kingdom is very closely followed by Germany in this respect. SUSSEX FROM INDIA. An arrival at Auckland yesterday afternoon was the Union Company's chartered Bteumer Sussex from Eastern ports. After discharging nearly 000 tons of cargo for this port she resumed her voyage last night to Wellington, Lyttelton, Tima.u, Dunedin p.nd Blufl. . ' . . The Sussex discharged coal from I\ewcaßtle at Bataviu and Samarang and then went to Calcutta where she arrived on October 21 and commenced loading for New Zealand. She aailed on December 5 for Penang for further loading and then to Singapore and Samarang, where she completed her cargo. She cleared Samarang an December 20 for Auckland direct. Fine weather was experienced on the voyage which was uneventful. Besides cargo tho Sussex brought the following passengers:—From Calcutta: Miss Ax. 11. Harding and Mr. N. The Colonial Sugar Company's steamer Rona will arrive at Auckland from Suva at seven o'clock this morning, according to her ynreless message. She will berth an hour later at Chelsea to discharge raw sugar. PORT HOBART AT PANAMA. En route from Now Zealand to London, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line's motor-sliip Port Hobart reached Panama on January 6, according to a cable message. She was despatched from Auckland on December 10. HUNTINGDON FROM LIVERPOOL. With cargo from West of England porta, the Federal Line Bteamer Huntingdon was scheduled to clear Liverpool on January 2 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Cable advice received by the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company states that tho steamer Matakana arrived at London on Tuesday, January 5, from Wellington, from which port she aailed on November 26. Having called at Montevideo and Teneriffe, the Matakana, which has Wellington's first sale wool on board, made a very smart passage of 40 days. After having her hull cleaned and painted the Government steamer Hmemoa was undocked yestorday afternoon and berthed at Central Wharf to take in stores, bunkers and fresh water., Next week she will pro : ceed to Wellington to relieve the Tutanekai in the lighthouse service. The Tutanekai is being withdrawn to undergo her annual overhaul and survey. When she resumes the Hinemoa will then be laid up for overhaul. * MARTABAN- NOT REPORTED.
