STRUCK BY MOTOR-CAR.
WOMAN FATALLY INJURED. ACCIDENT AT NEWMARKET PINNED UNDER BACK WHEEL. A fatal accident occurred at Newmarket at eight o'clock last evening, when Mrs. Emma Thorburn, a widow, aged 68, who resided at 40, Brighton Road, Parnell, was knocked down by a motor-car and received injuries from which she succumbed in hospital, Mrs. Thorburn was about to board a city-bound tramcar at Teeds' Pharmacy when the accident took place. She had just stepped off the footpath when the motor-car, driven by Mrs. R. D. Rogers, of 5, St. George's Bay Road, struck her. In an endeavour to avoid her the driver swerved to the left, the front wheel of the car coming to rest on the footpath. Mrs. Thorburn was pinned under a back wheel. On admission to the hospital she was found to be suffering from several fractured ribs and severe shock. She died about three hours later.
