LIQUOR IN PUDDINGS.
SUPPLIES FOR NEW YORK. " BLIND EYE " OF CUSTOMS. Thousands of English plum puddings will be crossing the Atlantic in the next few days to take their places on the American Christmas table, said a London paper of November 17. • This year, more than ever before, the English pium pudding has been regarded with particular affection, because the New York customs officials now look upon it as a harmless visitor. ''Plum puddings or confectionery that contain wine or spirit as a flavouring are not regarded as an infringement of the Prohibition law," said an official of the United States Treasury (Customs) Department,
"'lhev do not contain the liquor in liquid form, and there will not, therefore, be any trouble tn New York with these Christmas puddings." Each one of a , large consignment of puddings that is being sent from London is well flavoured witn brandy, and the fruit is also soaked in a liqueur for several days before it is mixed.
