TRADE WITH CUBA.
INQUIRY BY AUSTRALIA. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 9.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 7. Sir James Elder, Australian Trade Commissioner in the United States, has returned from a visit to Cuba, where he stayed nearly a fortnight inquiring into the question of trade between Cuba and Australia. He has forwarded a report to the Government on the subject. Sir James says that he believes that the prospects of the disposal of many kinds of Australian goods in Cuba is possible if vessels from Australia passing through the Panama Canal made Havana a port of call. He indicates that the transhipment of Australian products could also be made at San Francisco.
