THE NEW CABINET.
NATIONALIST'S SPECULATION [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. A prominent member of the National Party to-day stated that it was pretty certain that the Prime Minister would offer the Hon. A. T. Ngata a portfolio in the new Cabinet. This would be done with the object of forcing the Labour Party on to the Opposition benches. If either Mr. McCombs or Mr. O'Brien were successful in his election petition it would give the National and Labour Parties equal strength in the House, and if Mr. Coates could succeed in inducing Mr. Ngata to accept Ministerial office this would relegate the National Party to the wilderness.
Personally, he said, he would prefer that Mr. Holland should have to assume the responsibility of Leader of the Opposition, as the National members would have an easier row to hoe as free lances.
