SIR BASIL THOMSON.
ARREST SN HYDE PARK. EX-DIRECTOR OF INTELLIGENCE. LONDON", Doc. 10. Sir Basil Thomson, formerly Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Polieo,. and afterwards Director of Intelligence, was arrested in Hyde Park for an alleged offence iu which a wjman is also said to have been concerned. Tho woman was arrested as well. Neither Sir Basil Thomson nor the woman, Thelma Delava, answered to their bail at tho Marlborough Street Police Court. Tho magistrate therefore issued summonses. Tho newspapers describe Sir Basil as the anti-spy chief, and say ho foiled rc.ony German secret service men in war titno. They recall that he presided at many stern cross-examinations which resulted in the execution of spies. Tho most dramatic was his interview with Sir Roger Casement, who finally said: "I suppose you are going to shoot me." Sir Basil replied: "I cannot promise that."
