WHANGAREI STRAWBERRIES

SEASON PRACTICALLY OVER. RUSHED ON BY THE WEATHER. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Monday. According to a well-known grower of strawberries for the markets the" season is almost over. The explanation proffered was that the cold weather in the early spring kept the crops back, and then rain with warmer weather brought them on rapidly. That period was followed by a spell of dry weather and this has brought the end of the picking season in sight. Growers dependent upon returns from strawberries have had a hard time, and it is,possible that those who rely upon tomatoes grown outdoors will have an almost equally bad experience, the weather also bringing this crop on so rapidly that growers and dealers fear that the surplus supply will create a slump.
