REFORM OF THE CALENDAR.

! Sir, —Your contributor " Matanga "• I writes an amusing article on the above subject in last Saturday's Herald supplement, but the question of the reform of .the calendar is just one of a number of simple improvements which Mucauley's schoolboy oughti to bo able to devise. If thero is anything funny about tho matter it is that tho weight of tho League of Nations should be brought to bear on trifles of tho kind. Tho calendar might be reformed by dividing tho year into eight months of 30, and four months of 31 days, which would account for 364 days. Tho odd day could bo sandwiched in between December 31 and January 1, made a universal holiday, and called (say) League of Nations day, but kept out of the callendar so far as the days of the week and tho month are concerned—• a veritablo " dies non." . " Leap year day " "would be treated similarly, and placed (say) between the end of June and tho first of July every fourth year. Under this method tho days of the week and of the month would bo uniform in as much as if Monday was tho first day of January once, it would be tho same always, and whatever day of the week commenced any month in one year, so it would continue till the end of time. An oven better arrangement would be to divide tho year into 13 months of 28 days each and to bring in tho change when the Srst day of tho year shall fall on a Monday, in which case tho first day of tho week be the first of tho mouth, not only for January but; for all the months. The odd days would be treated as already explained- Method.
