cfHURCH HOLDING US OWN. ARCHDEACON EVANS* VISIT. ' "As far, as I yras able to judge, the Church of England is holding its oWn in the United Kingdom and that is saying a good deal in this pleasnre-loving age," said Archdeacon F. G. Evans, of New Plymouth, who, isdth Mrs. Evans and Miss Evans, .arrived from Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday after an eleven months' visit to Britain and the Continent, "The earnest and faithful pastor-priest still fills his churtsh and still influences very' largely public opinion," he stated. "A prominent instance of this is the Rev. W. Sheppard, of St. Martins-in-the-Fields, London, whose letter to the public papers entirely altered the nature of the celebrations of Armistice Day. His church is crowded many times every Sunday." Archdeacon Evans visited France and Belgium and was entertained by many Church organisations in the various places. He will leave for Mew Plymouth to-day.
