SHIPBUILDING TRADE.
INDUSTRIAL PEACE SOUGHT. HOPE FROM NEW " LOCARNO." LONDON." Dec. 22. The Federation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Trades Employees intends to take a ballot during the holidays to decide whether its members will accept the draft agreement submitted by the joint committee of owners and employees to operate for three years, but which can bo terminated by six months' notice on either side. The agreement is designed to establish machinery for prompt conciliation in the event of disputes and to avoid strikes. The agreement is regarded as the "Locarno" of shipping, and the opinion is expressed that it may have important results by bringing a return of peace and prosperity to the shipbuilding industry.
