BRITISH FINANCES.
DEFICIT FOR NINE MONTHS. INCREASE IN EXPENDITURE. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Router. LONDON, Jan. 1. Tho British Exchequer returns for the first. nine months of the current financial years show a deficiency of nearly £124,000,000, compared with £89,000,000 for the corresponding period of last year, which, by the end of the year, however, was converted into a small surplus. A similar happy position is expected this year, despite the heavy supplementary votes in connection with tho coal subsidy, and tho loss on the Empire Exhibition, which has increased tho original estimates twenty-one millions.
