SHIPMENTS TO AMERICA. BANKRUPT BARONET'S STORY. Sim. LONDON, Dec. SO. The estate of Sir Broderick Hartwell, who has been nick-named the " Whis-ky-Running Bayonet," is in bankruptcy. The liabilities amount to about £250,000. 11l the course of an examination Sir Brcderick said that in response to an invitation from America he despatched seven shipments of liquor to that country, the last of which consisted of 56,000 cases. The vessel's crew mutinied, and the cargo was transferred to smaller vessel!!. The American officers, said Sir Broderick, seized 36,000 cases of the liquor. He had not received payment for the shipment, which he valued at £250,000. Sir Broderick Hartwell, the fourth baronet of his line, who is 49 years of age, has had military experience, having held the rank of major in the 2nd Garrison Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He served in the South African War, being awarded the medal and two clasp«, and also in the Great War. He took part in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915.
