ARTIFICIAL WOOL.
USE OF BRITISH CAPITAL. TWO FACTORIES AT WORK. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Dec. 30. Tho Morning Post states that there are two manufacturing concerns interested in the production of synthetic wool. It is stated that they are financed mainly by British capital, though one is situated in Italy and believed to be a subsidiary company ' to one of the largest Italian artificial silk firms.
In appearance the wool is said to resemble ordinary sheep's wool, but it possesses a sheen. It is being extensively made, and the cloth, which is combined with a sheep's wool mixture, presents a distinctly pleasing appearance. In preparing the artificial wool, fibres from two to six inches long are worked into yarn like sheep's wool. The Italian company, it is stated, is manufacturing under a German patent, but the British company is producing material in a different manner, which is not affected by any foreign patent. The price of synthetic wool in the United States is stated to be from a quarter to half the price of the real article.
