BETTING AND WHISKY.

SUGGESTED NEW TAXES. POSSIBILITIES OF BUDGET. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Dec. 29. The Daily Mail states that it traderstands that the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Winston Churchill, is satisfied that he can frame the 1926 Budget at a substantially lower figure than that of 1925, excluding the coalminers' wages subsidy, which will probably total £30,000,000. It is expected that the balance sheet on March 31 next will show a deficit, but there is a possibility of a reduction in direct taxation, provided that Mr. Churchill obtains the Cabinet's approval of tho proposed new taxes, such as the tax on betting, a tax on whisky, an export tax extension and a luxury tax.
