FIGHTS DURING HOLIDAYS. AN UNWELCOME BROTHER-IN-LAW Charges of fighting in Scotland Street on Tuesday evening were admitted by Christopher Charles Brown, aged 42, and Patrick Knox, aged 45, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. A. J. Stratford and Mr. J. H. Fray, J.P's. " Knox has been hanging about the house and annoying us," istated Brown. " He tried to get in and we went out into the street to settle it." Mrs. Brown stated that Knox was a brother-in-law and was a real pest. Although he was a relative he had no right to come around the house. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said thai Knox had over 20 convictions against him and was recently corfvicted for theft The case against Brown was dismissed and Knox was fined £3, in default, 14 days' imprisonment. " When a constable arrived the men were down on the ground striking one another," said the senior sergeant in the case of John Holmes, aged 45, and John Durran, aged 28, -charged with fighting in Federal Street on Tuesday. Holmes, who was out on bail, did not appear, while Durran pleaded guilty. "I do not remember anything about it," Durran said. Each accused was fined £2 "I will send you to the island if yon do not improve," said Mr. F. K. Himt S.M.. when Thomas Fleming, agedl 61, pleaded guilty to being drunk in Queen Street and breaking his prohimtion order. He denied a further charge of entering licensed premises on October 29, during the currency of a prohibition order. Accused said he came to Auckland on Christmas Eve from Arapum, where he had been working for the past few months. He was invited to have a cruiß by several friends who were on the tram. Sergeant Felton said he found accused on licensed premises on October 29. When questioned he said he was looking for someone. Immediately after that he went to Arapum. ' " You had no right to be on licensed premises," the magistrate said, in fining accused ss, in default, 24 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness, and £l. m default, 14 days' imprisonment for breach of his prohibition order. The third charge was adjotirned, it being stated that it would be withdrawn provided accused went back to work at Arapuni this morning and paid the fines. ( A fine of £2, in default seven days imprisonment was imposed on Arnold Bonvallat, aged 42, for using obscene language while under arrest for drunkenness m Federal Street on December 26. He was convicted and discharged for drankenness. ___________
