CHOSEN FOR COMMISSION.
SPECIAL ARTILLERY COURSE. [by teiegu-vph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Squadron Sergeant-Major Cyril Edward Weir, of Wellington, 'has been chosen by the Dcfenco Department to undergo a special course of instruction at Woolwich. He has gone with two other cadets and, after 18 months' technical training, will be attached to a regular unit of the Army for six months. He is afterwards to return to New Zealand to take up a commission in the Royal New Zealand Artillery. Born on Otago Peninsula, SergeantMajor Weir, who is 21 years of age, matriculated at the Otago Boys' High School and passed the entrance examination for Duntroon, but was unable to go to that college owing to the retrenchment scheme. He has been a keen territorial arid is a good shot. He was employed in the Stamp Duties Department.
