RESTORATION OF CHURCH.
ST. GEORGE'S, THAMES. STEEPLE NOW MADE SAFE. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPOND ENT. ] THAMES, Wednesday. The builders, are maintaining good progress with the .restoration of the steeple and general repairs to St. George's Church. When the work was commenced the timber in the steeple had rotted to a sufficiently alarming extent as to set it rocking in windy weather. The steeple has now been plated in zinc and iron, and the timbering strengthened. The shuttered windows have been renewed and new buttresses were found necessary throughout the building. The work should bo completed by Christmas. These and many other repairs have been a severo cb'ain on tho church funds but the parishioners have responded generously to special appeals and a substantial portion of the required money has • been raised. Tho church is one of the oldest and best known in the province.
