INVENTION OF THE TANK.
CLAIM AGAINST CROWN. ' ; ... OFFICER LOiSES THE CASE. JUDGE DOUBTS STATEMENTS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 7.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. Dec. 15. Judgment was given for the Crown today by Mr. Justice McCardie in the case 'n which Captain Bede Bentley claimed £300,000 on the grounds that he 'was the inventor of the fighting-tank. His Honor said the late Earl Kitchener had displayed no active interest in the tank project. He had not realised that such a weapon was within the range of practical achievement. Incidents in respect to the tank were minor factors in Earl Kitchener's career. Proceeding, His Honor said Captain Bentley had been an unsatisfactory witness. Many of his answers to questions were substantially false. Captain Bentley had had no conversation with Earl Kitchener in October, 1914. The alleged pencil notes, said His Honor, were written at. a much later date. He was satisfied that-Captain Bentley's story regarding the origin of the tank was untrue.
