DISTRESSING FATALITY.
CHILD AND SCALDING WATER. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] GTSBORNE. Monday. Scalds received yesterday resulted in the death at the Cook Hospital this morning of a 13-months-old child. Shirley Josephs, whose parents reside at Matawai and who was staying with Mrs. Owen, of Kahutia Street. Miss Owen placed a basin of hot water on a chair at the hack of the house yesterday and then went inside to replace the kettle. A little boy and the child were playing some distance away and during Miss Owen's absence the baby went over 'to the basin. When the boy reached her the scalding contents of the basin had spilled over the child.
