MR. FLANAGHAN RETIRING APPOINTMENT OF SUCCESSOR. [BY telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr. F. W. Flanaghan, Valuer-General, who retires on superannuation shortly, will be succeeded by Mr. Thomas Brook, the present commissioner of Crown lands at Wellington. A native of Lawrence, Otago, Mr. Brook entered the public service in 1891, and qualified as a surveyor six years later. After considerable field experience he was appointed local land officer and inspecting surveyor at Gisborne in March, 1912, where he remained until he was appointed commissioner of Crown lands and chief surveyor at Hokitika in 1916. He was appointed to a similar position at Invercargill in April, 1919, and held that position until August, 1922, when he was appointed commissioner of Crown lands and chief surveyor at Wellington.
