NEW PLYMOUTH ROAD.
FINE ORDER FOR MOTORISTS. DANGEROUS POINTS INDICATED. fBY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. *] NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. Better conditions for motoring will be provided this summer on the popular tourist route between New Plymouth and Auckland. The condition of the road between New Plymouth and Mokau is good. All of the Mount Messenger portion is now tar sealed and many improvements have been effected in the removal of the more dangerous corners. Permanent metalling work is being carried out near Tongaporutu and the Mirni Gorge. There is more good news for motorists. Tho whole of the New Plymouth-Mokau section of tho main road has been provided with signposts by the Taranaki Automobile Association, including both direction arid danger boards. White triangles bearing the namo of tho association indicate a direction sign, while red triangles, also . bearing tho name of tho association, indicate a dangofons section' in the highway. Every corner or crossroad, or any portion of tho road constituting a danger to traffic in any way, has been clearly! indicated. All tho signs aro substantial structures, and are larger and more conspicuous than, those specified,-by the Highways Board. A sign which will be. of interest to tourists is erected on the summit'of Mount Messenger, indicating that portion of the road" to be 1008 ft. above sea level., At the Mokau River, on tho provincial boundary of Taranaki and Auckland, a sign sft. by 3ft. 6in. has been erected, giving tho distances between the main centres on the route.
