DECISIONS OF THE COUNCIL, FEES FOR TRAFFIC LICENSES. The Onehunga Borough Cormci] met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. E. Cowell, presiding. The Suburban Local Bodies" Association submitted a new basis as a suggestion upon which the fees for traffic licenses should be distributed. The proposal was

that the scale should be based as fol lows: —Population 30 per cent., valuation 20 per cent., area 30 per cent., and road mileage 20 per cent. This will be con sidered by the council in committee next Monday.

Mr. J. E. Green drew attention to the recommendation of the grand jury, in connection with the recent fatal accident, at the junction of Trafalgar Street and Queen Street, that the shelter shed where the accident occurred should be removed. Tie reminded the council of its decision to mov3 the shed as soon as the trial was over. On his motion it was decided to move tie shed immediately. Mr. S. J. Brookfield tendered his resignation as returning officer, and tliß town clerk, Mr. 11. A. Yockney, was appointed to the position. - Accordingly he will conduct the poll on Thursday for the sewage loan of £2OOO.

The Taupo Water Committee asked if the council wished to be included in the local bodies promoting the bill to authorise a water supply from Lake Taupo. The reply will bo in the negative.

Permits for the erection of sixteen dwellings, at an estimated cost of £13,170, in addition to alterations and additions to the value of £260, were issued last month.

The district, railway engineer forwarded a letter expressing regret at his inability to attend the recent conference arranged by the council, for the purpose of considering a scheme for beautifying the approach to Onehunga from tha wharf. It. was decided to ask him to suggest another date for a conference. Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, drew attention to the approach of the mosquito season, and invited the co-operation of the council in extermin ating the pest. Members of the council expressed the opinion that Onehunga was singularly free from mosquitoes, but the information given by Dr. Hughes will be referred to the sanitary inspector, who will b6 instructed to adopt all possible measures to combat the pest.
