NEW RECORD ESTABLISHED.

A New Plymouth toy. S . McCann. riding on the 30min. mark, won yesterday's Round Mount Egmont cycle race by a comfortable margin.. Fifty-sis riders faced the started at New Plymouth, the limit men, who were given 40min. start, leaving at 10 o'clock. The roads, which for the greater part of the 100 miles course are tarsealed. were in good order. The weather was favourable, although during the first 40 miles along the coast road to Opunake a head wind was faced. Great interest was displayed by the public, who lined the roads and streets in &11 the villages and towns. The scratch men gained very little. on * the leaders to Opunake. Passing. Kapongu, Brewster, New Plymouth, was in the lead, a position he held all the way to Inglewood. which is only 11 miles from home. Two minutes behind him came McCann. Yardley, Mortlake and Belk, who in the last stretch overhauled the leader, finishing in the order named, with Brewster fifth. McCann rode a splendid race, reaching the finishing post at the New Plymouth racecourse over five minutes ahead of the next man. Parken (New Plymouth), 20min, riding time, 5h 14min 44sec .. .. 10 Watson gained the fastest time and Mackie the second fastest, Both broke the previous record of oh 3min Ssec. established last year 'by C Bint (New Plymouth).
