DISTRICT NEEDS DOCTOR.
REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE. THE PEOPLE OF PIOPJO. [BX TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Thursday. An application for assistance in securing the services of a doctor and an inquiry whether the public residence woald be available for him was made by the Piopio Medical Association to the Waikato Hospital Board. It was stated by members of the board that the residence had already been leased to the district nurse. Mr. Lee said the residents had expressed their desire to have a nurse rather than a doctor, and the home had accordingly been leased to her. The trouble now was that the nnrse was at "loggerheads" with some of the people. However, there was no doubt a doctor was needed for the district. At the same time they conid not do without a nurse. A member remarked that when the Te Kuiti Hospital was completed the necessity for a nursing home at Piopio would to a large extent be obviated. The matter was referred to the House and Finance Committee.
