RETURNS FOR EIGHT MONTHS. LARGE INCREASES RECORDED. EXPORT BALANCE LARGER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. An excess of exports over imports of ,£8,939,687 is shown by the returns of the Dominion's trade for the eight months ended August 31. For the corresponding period of last year, the balance was £7,293,484. The exports for the period were valued at £42,955,713, as against £38,747,578 in tha corresponding period of last year, an increase of £4,208,135, equal to a'bout 10jper cent. This substantial increase is mainly due to wool, the exports for the eight months having been 505,602 bales valued at £15,800,450, as compared with 520,831 bales, valued at £'.2.930.315. The increase in value was £2,c!70,135 notwithstanding a decrease in quantity of 15.229 bales. The imports for the eight months were valued at £34,016,026 .as compared with £31,454,094 for the eight months of last year, an increase of £2,561,982 equal to about 8 per cent. The principal increases were in motor vehicles £492,000; rubber tyres, £277,000; timber, £159.000; cotton piece goods, £288,000: apparel, £122,000; and silks, £120,000, while there are decreases m grain of £321,000 and sugar, £218,000. During the eight, months 14,605 motor vehicles were imported as compared with 12,334 in the corresponding eight months of Inst year and 8620 in the eight months of 1923.' The values of the motor vehicles trd were £2,800,851 against £2.308,704 last year and £1,503,211 in 19 23- * , , . For the 12 months ended August 31 the value of exports was £56,820,846 and that of imports £51,089,435, showing an excess of exports of £5,731,411.
