NEGLECTED INSTITUTION.
HAMILTON OLD MEN'S HOME. COMMITTEE ASKED TO REPORT. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Thursday In the course of a discussion by the Waikato Hospital Board of the position in regard to the Old Men's Home at Hamilton, the hospital {superintendent, Dr. L. A. Lewis, said the arrangements were a standing reproach. The accommodation was inadequate and the man ate their meals in a room in Which some of them slept. The House and Finance Committee are to visit the home and bring down a report at the next meeting. Speaking after the meeting with regard to the home, Dr. Lewis said there was ample scope for the people of Hamilton who were benevolently inclined to provide some anomities for the old men. They were relegated to portion of a building at the back of the hospital, and were seldom visited and almost entirely neglected. They had nothing to do. Brighter surroundings and better accommodation were badly needed. Much could be done to brighten the evening of the old people's lives by a little human sympathy and kindness.
