CANADA'S FIELD CROPS.
HIGHEST VALUE C»N RECORD. COMPARISON WITH THE PAST. LEAD OF ABOUT £20=000,000. [rctOM OUR OWH CORRESPONDENT. ] TOEONTO, As*. 29. In actual purchasing power the field crops of Canada this year will be worth 100,000,000 dollars more than any previous crop in history, and 300.000,000 or perhaps 400,000,003 dollars more than last year. As thera are about 600,000 agricultural families in Canada this means that each family will add about 600 dollars to the country's wealth more than last year. According to the latest Government reports the wheat yield will amount to 375,000,000 bushels. Coarse grains also show an increase. Oats will yield 446,000,000 bushels, valued at 223,000,000 dollars, and barley will yield 76,000,000 dollaii. Last year the total value of the field crops was 995,236,000 dollars. This year the price level is approximately the same as last year's. But the production is about one-third greater. There is an estimated value this year of 1,318,000,000 dollars. In 1922 and 1923, although the price level was in line with that of this year, the total value of the crops was several hundred millions lower. The only contestants in high valuation are the years 1918, 1919 and 1920, when the price levels were extremely high. In all three of these years the total value of the crops considerably exceeded the estimate for this year, but the actual purchasing power of the largest of the three, that of 1919, was approximately 100,000,000 dollars smaller than the estimate for this year. In the years 1915 and 1916 the price levels had not reached the heights later recorded, and the yield was ?ery great, but the total values of those crops do not compare with that of the present year. It is unnecessary to moralise on the importance of this outlook to the country as a whole.
