THE WHANGAREI MEETING. ruapapa wins the cup. [BT TELEGRAPH,—OWN COEEESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Thursday. The Whang,arei . Racing Club's Spring Meeting was opened at Kensington Park to-day. "The weather was dull and threatening and a slight drizria fell at the Outset, but the weather cleared later. The track was in good order. There waa a large attendance and the gathering passed oil very successfully. The principal event, the Wbangarei Cup, was won by Buapapa, who finished with a fine burst of speed and scored very decisively. After the event the president, Mr. R. G. Hosking, congratulated Mr, Wenzl Scholium on the success of his horse and Mrs. Hosking then presented the handsome cup donated by Mr. J. Gleeson to the winning owner. The management of the meeting was very satisfactory and the racing full oI interest. Mr. A. Gordon was the stipendiary steward in attendance. After the Whangarei Cup he instituted an inquiry into some bumping, in which Barometer and Doleful Ditty were the sufferers. It was found that the trouble was caused by Take Take bleeding and dropping back suddenly. No action was taken. In an even betting race Gold Mint was a slightly better favourite than Cherry Girl, with Maveelish a good third choice. From a fair start Scot Free first away and led from Cherry Girl, Dave and Delightment. This order was maintained into the straight, where Dave came through with a strong ran and won by half a length from Maveelish, who finished fast from a good way back. Quincoma waa a good favourite. The inside horses got the best of the start and Quncioma and Sleepy Sol were the first to begin. When they settled down Quincoma and Sleepy Sol were racing on close terms in the lead, about two lengths clear of Mosaic and Titaness. which order was maintained to the straight. At the distance Mosaic and Titaness challenged a.cd in a splendid finish Mosaic won by a short neck from Quincoma, who defeated Sleepy Sol by a head. Passing the stand Peter Rosa held command from 1 e Tail, Smoke and Poteen, with Zircon moving up. Te Tahi tooft charge along the back, followed by Peter Rosa, Poteen and Zircon, and this was the order as they turned for home. Te Tahi still had charge at nhe last fence, where Peter Rosa. Zircon and Poteen closed up. Peter Roan finished well and won by threequarters of a length from Te lain, who defeated Zircon by a head. A good favourite wai found in Barometer, who was nearly £3OO better supported than Arch Amie, with Far North a solid third fancy. From a sood start Barometer and Take Take were the first away, but were soon headed by Far North and Arch Amie. Passing the stand Far North. Arch. Amie and Kawini were racing together in front, followed b.v Ruapapa. Right and Left. Boomerday and Barometer. There was not much change in the positions going along the back, where Boomerday made a fast run through to the front. The field was well bunched as they crossed the ton and Boomerday and Far North were the leaders from Arch Amie. Ruacmia and Right and Left. Arch Amie and Boomerday were first into the straight from Far North and Ruapapa. Once in line for the po»t_ Ruapapa came through with an irresistible run and won by a length and a-balf from Boomerday, who beat Right and Left by a length. Nocturne moved into'third position crossing the top and came into the straight almost on terms with Lady Lois and King Cheops, Exactly and Sleepy Sol being most prominent of the others.
