WORK FOR NEW SEASON. DECISIONS OF THE COUNCIL. [By TELEGBAPH.—OWN correspoxpest. j PUKEKOHE. Thursday. The monthly meeting of the Franklin County Council was presided over by the chairman, Mr. H. Wilcox. The treasurer reported having received a total of £29 2s too the fund for a national memorial to the late Mr. Massey. The amount had been forwarded to Auckland. A deputation of Patumahoe residents asked for the completion and opening of Hunter's new road. The engineer, Mr. J. F. McArthur, stated that a £1 for £1 subsidy of £3OO had been placed on the supplementary estimates, and the formation work would be resumed on the weather becoming settled. The engineer reported that arrangements were being made for the expenditure of loan moneys in conjunction with Government subsidies as follows:—Karaka North Road, forming and metalling 92 chains, loan and subsidy available, £1000; Clark's Road, Karaka, forming and .metalling 67 chains, loan and subsidy, £1250; Wan t Papakura Road, Yates to Mackenzie, forming and metalling, loan and subsidy, £1450; Main Highway, Paeh>a to Pokeno, Koheroa deviation, forming and gravelling 114 chains and widening 31 chains, money available £2210; Yate's Road, Bucklatid. forming and metalling 55 chains, and erection of bridge, loan and subsidy £1000; Rutherford's Road, Pukekohe East, metalling 65 chains, loan and subsidy, £600; Smith's Road, Waiuku, metalling 70 chains, loan and subsidy, £800; Bothwell Park Road, Otaua, metalling '7O chains, loan and subsidy, £1000; Ramarama to Bombay, forming and metalling 195 chains, loan £I2(K), subsidy, £250 on account; Allsop's Bay to Hanukau Heads, forming 120 chains "of new road, loan and subsidy approximately £850; Goodwin Road, Aka Aka, metalling 70 chains, loan and subsidy, £1350; Karaka-Waiau Road, via Glasson's Bridge, metalling 53 chains, loan and subsidy approximately £650; Waiuku-Drurv Road, end of metal to Mauku Bridge, metalling loan and subsidy, £660; other works uncompleted at the" end of last summer would be proceeded with as soon as possible. A request from a largo number of Waipipi ratepayers for the appointment of a ranger in the old Waipipi Road Board area was left to Mr. W. G. Hamilton, with power to act. Requests for destruction of willows in tfce Maketu Creek from Bombay through Ramarama and Runciman to Drurv were received. The council resolved to recommend the ratepayers concerned to form a special drainage district, to be administered by the council. The riding member, Mr. G. W. Heald, was deputed to interview several ratepayers who had lodged objections to inclusion in the Paparimn Happy Valley special loan area. Returns from Tuakau residents for formation of Brown's Road and repairs to Dominion Road were referred to the chairman and the engineer, together with a request for improvement of the state of the main road at Whangarata and of "the Whangarata-Bombay Road. A petition for a special area for £4OO for metalling half a mile of Butcher's Bridge Road, Waiuku, was acceded to. The engineer was deputed io confer with ratepayers at Ararimu, who asked for a special area to continue the metal on the main road there to the riding boundary. A request from the Ararimu Settlers' Association for repairs to the main Ararimu Road elicited the information that the crusher would be in that district shortly.
