CEREMONY AT ROME.
SPECIAL OBSERVANCES. CLOSING OF " HOLY DOORS." LONDOii, Sept. 27. The Pope, according to a message from Bone, has decided to hold special functions in connection ■with the closing of the "Hcly Doors." The Pope -Rill close St.. Peter's door, celebrate a Pontifical Mass, and sing a "Te Deum." He will also proclaim "the social kingdom of Jesus Christ," directing that this festivity be included among iJse Church's holidays. The twenty-first Holy Year was opened last Christmas Eve by a service in the portico of 'St.' Peter's, in the course of ■which the Pope gave three taps with a silver hammer on the "Holy" or "Golden' Door, through which he then passed to bless the assembled multitude. The wall previously had been cut away by the church workmen, making the "opening" ceremony purely formal. At the end of Holy Year the door will be sealed up again for another 25 years. The "Holy Doors" in the other basilicas, are opened and closed by specially-delegated cardinals.
