Morton, of Wellingtop, are staying at the Central HoteL Mrs. James Hannah has returned to Wellington from a brief visit to Auckland. Mrs. A. J. McCredie, Holmwood Road, Cbristchurch, is paying a visit to Auckland. Mrs. R. E. Coontz, with Miss Coontz and Miss Frances Greene, have left Sydney for the East. Mrs. A. D. Houston, of Cbristchurch, who is at present visiting England, has been giving several lectures on New Zealand lor thf> Victoria League. She has also lectured" on Australia. Mr. and Mrs. Heywood Mellsop, of Knockmaroon, North Road. Clevedon, celebrated their silver wedding on October 6, having been married at Bishopscourt, Auckland, on October 6, 1900, by the late Bishop C'owie, assisted by the Rev. John Cowie. All address on " Th® Pi-ohlem of Mental Deficiency," was delivered by Dr. Mildred Staley to the Ladies' Committee of the Young Citizens' League this week. The meeting was attended by representatives of the various welfare organisations in Auckland. Miss P. Hawley, president of the committee, presided, and the speaker was accorded a vote of thanks. The steamer Leviathan, which arrived at Southampton on August 21 from America, was. for the second time this season, a "maVriage ship."On the voyage from Cherbourg to Southampton Captain H. C. Hartley, the great liner's commander, united in marriage Miss Eleanor Fay Bavuk, of Philadelphia, niece and ward of Mr. Samuel Bayuk, and Mr. Leonard S. Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel S. Green, of New Rochelle, New York. The wedding ceremony was performed on the bridge of the Leviathan at 1.1 o'clock in the forenoon. The musical circle of the Lyceum Club held a vnry successful "open evening" ce Monday. An excellent musical programme was arranged for the occasion by Sir. H. Barry Coney, who played all the accompaniments to the various solos. The "song evening" was much appreciated by the very large audience, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Coney at the close of the evening. The convener, Miss Alice Law, was in the chair. At the conclusion of an enjoyable programme supper was served in the lounge. At the November "open evening" a talk on "Music I Heard in Europe" will be given by Mrs. Parkes, president of the club. The members of the Paeroa Golf Club on. Saturday tendered Miss M. Shaw a farewell aiternoon on the links prior to her departure from Paeroa. In the absence of the club president. Dr. Smith, Mr. H. G. Somervell, vice-president, presented Miss Shaw with a very handsome hand-bag, and in doing so pointed out that Miss Shaw was one of the original njembers of the club and had for several years been secretary. Ho congratulated Miss Shaw on her retirement, and on behalf of the Paeroa golfers wished her every success for the future. Miss Shaw, in responding, recalled many incidents in the club's history and expressed regret at leaving her Paeroa friends. The lady golfers provided afterBoon tea. .-Delegates to the; conference of the New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association and their friends were the guests of the Mayor and Mayoress, the? Rev. J. K. and Mrs. Archer, at the Council .Chambers on Saturday morning. On arrival, the visitors were shown through the building by the Mayor, and later gathered for morning tea' in the Mayoress' room, where tall vases of spring flowers heightened the cheery aspect.
