TAKAPUNA BOROUGH.

DECISIONS OF COUNCIL. The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. B. Morison, presiding. It was resolved that as soon as approval is given by the Health Departnient to the arrangement for a temporary outfall from the sewerage system, ratepayers in the reticulated areas be notified that they must connect with the sewers, any ratepayers who require financial assistance to make application to the town clerk. Authority was given to the town clerk to sue for all arrears of rates and charges due on March 31, and remaining unpaid at the end of the present month. An expenditure of £IOO upon improvements at the bottom of the Promenade, where formerly stood the old Takapuna Wharf, was authorised. Approval was given for the expenditure upon the works in progress at Walters' Hill of from .£250 to £3OO, in addition to the amount already authorised, the sum to be spent on a retaining-wail. As the canvass of residents of the borough with the view to obtaining a continuous telephone service had go far proved unsatisiactoiy, the council decided that it should be discontinued. With reference to the proposed acquisition of Smith's Bush, Noitheote Road, as a public park, it was decided to ask for an extension of tlje council's option by three months, and that the Government be requested to sanction the purchase of the property by instalments. An intimation was received from the Postmaster-General that tire request for the opening of an auxiliary post, office at Hall's Corner could not be granted, A "clean-up week" was oidered to be conducted in the borough in the first week of November. , Notice of motion was tabled by Mr. G, H. Matthews in favour of instituting a flat rate in water supply charges, in lieu of the present, system of charging according to meter record.
