THERMAL ACTIVITY.
GEYSER AT ROTORUA. A WASH-HOUSE DESTROYED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] ROTORUA Wednesday. A new geyser which developed destructive tendencies yesterday and destroyed Mr. K. Simpson's wash house near tin, Utuhina Bridge, had a brief but spectacular career. After erupting every 20 minutes to a height of 30ft., it slowed down to a 45-minute schedule and increased its explosive force. At 7 p.m. it put up a shot that was estimated at 100 ft. and sent up a body of stones and debris. A large number of spectators gathered to see the display. This morning it had retreated underground and the water in the crater was merely tepid. Speculation is rife as to whether it has died or is merely lying low.
