AMUSEMENTS TAX.
WEST AUSTRALIAN INCREASE. In the West Australian Legislative Assembly recently, Mr. Munsie, Minister for Health, in moving the second reading of the Entertainment Tax Bill, said that it would impose a tax on amounts rang- | ing from 9d to 2s sJ>cl, and the proceeds ! would supplement the money already 1 granted for the maintenance of hospitals and charitable institutions. It was expected that the Commonwealth would relinquish the entertainment tax on amounts up to 2s 6d from October 1, and the State bill would come into operation by proclamation on the day following the abandonment of the Federai tax. For the present financial year he expected the tax to realise £16,000, and for the full year £25,000.
