GOODS BY RAILWAY.
NEW SHED ARRANGEMENTS. ELIMINATING THE DELAYS. The arrangements for outward loading at Auckland railway goods sheds were ex plained in a letter received yesterday by the Council of the Chamber of Commerce from the district railway traffic manager. A wholesale firm had complained regarding the frequency of delays to which carriers were subjected. It was stated the delays could be obviated if lorries were loaded with goods for separate sheds instead of carrying mixed consignments. The delay would be considerably reduced, if not eliminated, when the new sheds were erected. The dimensions of the first building, which was to be commenced at once, were 450 ft. by 150 ft. The shed would contain two *46 ft. roadways. Traffic would be in one direction only, vehicles proceeding through in a semi-circle. Four lines of rails within the shed were. provided for/ and four lines of carts expending the full length of the shed would be able to unload on to platforms or direct to trucks at the one time. Under these new conditions, the receiving doors would be eliminated, and the existing method of concentrating a number of vehicles at given points would be removed. _ _ The council decided to thank the department for this information.
