A LAST ADVENTURE.
IN A MINING RUSH AT 77, Despite the fact that he was 77 years of age, Major Arthur Morrisbv, one of the best known public men in Tasmania, joined the recent rush to the osmiridiuim field on the Adams River, but the hardships he had to undergo proved too much for him. He dropped dead in his camp on September 17. Major Morrisby was always interested in mining and when the news came of the rush to the field the fascination of the adventure overpowered him. He secured a miner's right and set out on a task that was enough to daunt the youngest and strongest of men. The major's career included seven years in the Legislative Council. He served in the South African War, in command of a squadron of Light Horse. In order to bring the body back from the field, it had to be carried on a stretcher over many miles of a rough and muddy track to the railhead.
