BARBERS AND INSPECTORS.
NEW SYDNEY REGULATIONS.
[FROM Oint OWN COKRESPON BENT. ] SYDNEY. Sept. 24.
Those who patronise Sydney's barber shops were threatened with increased charges, if the City Council's new by-law 3, insisting upon a much higher standard of cleanliness in the shaving and hairdressing business., were adopted, but with a little give and take on both sides ft is now unlikely that the existing charges will he altered.
Under the new powers granted by Parliament, giving the City Council control of hairdressing shops, the inspectors decided not to tolerate the laxity which it was felt existed in some places. Following a conference of the interested parties, a large number of new proposals will probably operate. The chief of these are that all appliances must be disinfected or otherwise sterilised immediately after use on each customer, and that no sponge, powder puff, or shaving soap, alum, or astringent in stick or block form must be used. The new by-laws will apply also to ladies' hairdressing saloons.
