LOAN FOE ROADING.
WAITEMATA COUNTY SCHEME. PROPOSAL TO RAISE £31,000. .CONCRETING MAIN HIGHWAY. A proposal to raise a loan of £31,000 for roading works is to be to the ratepayers of the "Waikumete riding of the Waitemata County and will be discussed at an adjourned meeting of the County Council next Tuesday. The largest sum for a single purpose mentioned in the proposal is £6OOO for the construction of 117 chains of concrete road on the main Auckland to Henderson highway, together with £350 for the construction of a footpath for the same distance. The only other large item is an allowance of £1365 for 350 chains of the Te Atatu main road.
The proposals for the distribution of the loan among the different districts are as follow:—Te Atatu district, metalling, ■widening, culvert construction and regrading, £7500; Oratia district, widening, metalling, culvert construction, tar sealing and compensation and fencing for the Shaw Road deviation, £6800; Coastal district, Waikumete-West Coast Road, widening, culvert construction and gravelling 3£ miles, £1500; Waari Hamlet district, widening, dulvert construction and metalling, £2390; Kelston area, metalling and footpath construction, £1340; Sabulite area, regrading, metalling and waterworks, £1650; Kaurilands area, formation, metalling .and culvert construction, £880; Auckland-Henderson main highway, £6350; .Forest Hill area, widening and metalling, £1200; contingencies, £1340.
A recommendation that the Birkenhead riding member should be authorised to submit a loan proposal of £20,000 to the ratepayers for general roading improvements as soon as definite authority had been received from the Main Highways Board, was made .to the council yesterday by the county engineer.
