QUEENSLAND'S IDLE MEN.
INSURANCE PAYMENTS. An analysis of the tables attached to the second annual report of the working of the Queensland Unemployed Workers' Insurance Act shows that during the 12 months ended June 30 last, sustenance totalling £64,553 was granted to 11,474 male applicants in Brisbane and £6923 to 1356 female applicants. Altogether 4808 maies, who described themselves as labourers, received sustenance amounting to £33.524, and 956 waterside woikerx received £4172. By far the greater number of females Who sought sustenance were machinists and shop assistants. _ -Another table shows that from January 1 last to Mav 31 sustenance .totalling £7,2,242 was pa'id to H-377 applicant outside Brisbane.
