AMERICAN NAVAL TRAGEDY. CONTINUATION OF SEARCH. A. a;ad N.Z. : /. WASHINGTON. Sept. 8. Mr. Curtis Wilbur, Secretary to the Navy, announces that the United States Fleet, which is now returning from New Zealand, was ordered to spread fanwise on approaching the Hawaiian Islands, in the hope of finding some trace of the missing seaplane, PN9 No. 1, which was forced to descend on the attempted flight from San Francisco to Honolulu. The search would be continued while a shred of hope remained. Destroyers which searched the Hawaiian waters have been orderod to again cover the area they have already combed.
