WAIKATO COUNTY ROADS.
TAUHEI AND KIMIHIA. REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON. Wednesday. Several complaints concerning the condition of roads at Tauhei and Kimihia were received from deputations of settlers that waited on the Waikato County Council. One speaker said a grant of £250 had been ma,de for the improvement of Clinch's Road, Kimihia, but the money could not be spent. The clerk said the road had not been legalised. It was decided to ask the Public Works Department to spend the grant. ... The council resolved to take steps to raise a loan of £2OOO for improvement of roads at Tauhei. The Kimihia 'deputation asked if something oould be done and money spent to improve the condition of Holland's and Raynor's Roads. The roads were full of holes, which required filling in with metal. Regarding Holland's the deputation suggested that it would not be unreasonable to ask the mine owners to, pay a small royalty on every ton of coal carted over the road. The money thus obtained would be a help toward maintenance. The chairman and Mr. Henry will meet the deputation at Huntly at a later date and afterwards "approach the mine owners to see what arrangement can be made.
