CHANGE IN VOLTAGE.
WELLINGTON READJUSTMENT CONSUMERS* BILLS INCREASE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Some time ago the City Council, on the advice of experts, determined to increase the electric voltage, which involved a general readjustment, of all fittings and also very heavy expense, much of which had to be borne by the consumers. The change-over is already partly effected, and will soon be completed, but strong complaints are 'being made as to increases in bills. These appear to range from 25 to 50 per cent, which was wholly unexpected. In addition old lamps are almost useless, as they cannot stand the Increased power. There was a long discussion before the change was finally decided on, and the heavy increased cost to consumers appears likely to revive it in an accentuated form.
