ROAD WORK AUTHORITIES.
EARLY ISSUE ADVOCATED. CATCHING THE GOOD WEATHER. [BY TELEGRAPB. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAREI. Wednesday. " All authorities for expenditure on road works should be issued before November," declared the chairman, Mr. J. McEnnes, at a meeting of the No. 1 district council of the Main Highways Board. He said it was especially desirable in North Auckland because the weather in November and December was generally the finest in the year. Another factor in favour of getting as early a start as possible was that it enabled the local authority to get the best of the labour available, said Mr. J. S. Lane, who advocated the policy of having all possible works carried out during the summer.
Mr. W. Jones, chairman of the Whangarei County Council, moved that- it be a recommeudation to the Main Highways Board to endeavour to ensure the early issue of authorities. This was carried.
