Miss Coghlan, of Sydney, is staying at tlin Hotel Careen. Lady F. Weedon, of Melbourne, is a passenger by the Aorangi for Sydney. Miss Ella Wilson, of Wellington, sailed for England by tho Reraueia on Saturday. Mrs. C. A. Vautier and Miss Vantior, of Hamilton, are staying at tho Hotel Caigen Miss E. Bagnall, who has been travelling in England and on the Continent, R {ter a stay in Canada, returned to Auckland by the Aorangi. Miss Mona Hay is in London, after spending some weeks in Scotland. Later she intends visiting Paris, returning in time to rnec-t her sister, Mrs. Frank Abbott, who will arrive in London in tho early part of December. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. William Young, of Minto Road, Romuera, entertained a number of American sailors at their homo. They danced and played games, spending a most enjoyable evening. The sailors were, from tho Virginia, R Division. Mr 3. Todd, wife of Lieutenant-Com-mander C. C. Todd, of tho American battleship Colorado, was a passenger by tho Aorangi from Vancouver last evening. She was accompanied by her two children and Miss Johnson. Mrs. Todd, whose home is in Washington, will remain in Auckland until tho fleet sails. While in tho United States wtith her husband Mrs. Kenneth Mackenzie, who returned to Auckland by the Aorangi vesterday, investigated tho finances of charitable organisations run through the community chest. The data that have been collected will be placed before tho Auckland Rotary Club and various charitable organisations hero. Miss Janet Mitchell, 8.A., one of tho Australian delegates to tho Institute of Pacific Relations at Honolulu, reached Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday, and gave an address last evening to members of the Federation of University Women at the home of I>r. EI. Northcroft. Miss Mitchell will speak at seven o'clock this evening in the Y.W.C.A. on " Relations in the Pacific." She will continue her voyage by tho Aorangi this evening. Lady Gunson invited a number of women interested in women's work to meet Lady Liiido Ferguson, vice-president of tho woman's section of the Inter national Exhibition at Dunedin, with a viow to co-operating with other women throughout tho Dominion to make the woman's section a success. Resulting from this small gathering, Miss Molvillo arranged another meeting at tho Lyceum Club room on Aueust 5, at which the ladies present formpd themselves into a committee, with power to add to their number. Tn spite of the inclemency of tho weather, there was a fair attendance of over 30 members at the monthly meeting of the Northcote Women's Progressive League, held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, president, was in the chair. The action of the secretary in forwarding a letter of condolence to Mr. Baildon in his recent bereavement was confirmed. the members standing in silence as a mark of respect and sympathy. It was decided to invite Mr. T. Buton, a representative of the League of Nations Union, to address a meetine of the residents in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, September 15. On the motion of Mrs. Wood it was resolved to hold a social after noon on Wednesday. September 2, to amrment the funds of the league. A very fine address was given by Mr. Monckto'n on the "Problems of China," at thp eonelusion of wbirh a heartv vote of thanks snd appreciation to the speaker was unanimously carried.
